A Shared Vocabulary for Privacy

چکیده

Irwin Altman’s popular theory of privacy as a normalizing, dynamic, dialectic process regulating self-environment interactions is integrated with observations and conceptions of privacy drawn from ubicomp, law, architecture, sociology, and psychology. The result is a unified, holistic and comprehensive vocabulary for discussing privacy issues in the design of ubicomp systems, specifically ubiquitous video media spaces. The full vocabulary is rich with subtleties, and this paper presents a summary of material presented elsewhere [7]. The key elaboration of Altman’s theory deconstructs privacy into three synergisticallycoupled genres of control of self-environment boundaries. Solitude controls interpersonal interactions and attention. Confidentiality controls information access and fidelity. Autonomy controls observable manifestations of identity.

A centralized privacy-preserving framework for online social networks

There are some critical privacy concerns in the current online social networks (OSNs). Users' information is disclosed to different entities that they were not supposed to access. Furthermore, the notion of friendship is inadequate in OSNs since the degree of social relationships between users dynamically changes over the time. Additionally, users may define similar privacy settings for their f...

Data Privacy Ontology for Ubiquitous Computing

Privacy is an ability to understand, choose, and regulate what personal data one shares, with whom, for how long and under what context. Data owners must not lose the rights of ownership, once the data is shared. Privacy decisions have many components that include identity, access granularity, time and context. We propose an ontology based model for data privacy configuration in terms of produc...

The “Emergent” Semantic Web: A Consensus Approach for Deriving Semantic Knowledge on the Web

The recent and growing interest in the Semantic Web has given rise to a flurry of activity in standardization bodies (such as the W3C) to specify semantics using formal languages and inference mechanisms. The real challenge, however, is to link formal semantics with deeper meaning as reflected by consensus discovered among users on the Semantic Web. We believe the process of deriving and formal...

A Privacy Preference Ontology (PPO) for Linked Data

Although the existing Web Access Control (WAC) vocabulary restricts RDF documents to sp...

Analyzing Vocabulary Intersections of Expert Annotations and Topic Models for Data Practices in Privacy Policies

Privacy policies are commonly used to inform users about the data collection and use practices of websites, mobile apps, and other products and services. However, the average Internet user struggles to understand the contents of these documents and generally does not read them. Natural language and machine learning techniques offer the promise of automatically extracting relevant statements fro...
